Join us for the largest gathering of Chilkat and Ravenstail dancing blankets all dancing together for the first time in over 200 years. The Juneau foundation, Spirit Uprising is hosting this event.
We will start by walking through the Spirit Wraps Around Exhibit at the Alaska State Museum, witness the dancing of all ancient and contemporary robes woven before 2018, who will then parade from the APK Building to the Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall around 5 PM. All ticketed witnesses will then sit down to a catered dinner by Smokehouse Catering. Then five newly created robes will be revealed with their weavers speaking for a few minutes about their newly woven pieces. The grand finale of these new robes is the Giving Strength Robe for AWARE, Inc, a community-woven robe of over 60 volunteers all working to bring awareness to domestic and sexual violence and to bring strength to survivors. All our good intentions and blessings were woven into our individual squares.
Please join us in Juneau if you can. Tickets go on sale on March 1, 2020.
